Global Goal 4 – Quality Education - Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have come to end of our first term and what an amazing start to the school year it has been. I would like to thank all the staff, pupils and parents for all of your support, dedication and enthusiasm in supporting our school vision and values of creating this learning community and making us all 'Stronger Together'.
We have been delighted with how your children have settled into the challenging learning set by our school staff and looking forward to seeing how they progress in the upcoming Spring Term!
We have been proud of our children in Nursery, Reception and Year 1, who presented their Christmas Productions, and it was lovely to see so many parents come and support. They did an amazing job, well done!
This half-term we have been to the theatre with Reception to see 'Stickman', Year 4 attended a wonderful music concert at Wigmore Hall, pupils have participated in a variety of sporting events, Stargazers had a wonderful time creating music towards the 'This is me' project organised through Wigmore Hall, Year 1 visited the local church, and we had Year 6 pupils performing Wilsmere House Care Centre. The pupil's at Belmont will be looking forward to more visits and activities in the Spring Term, so watch this space!
School Disco
This week we hosted Belmont's very first Disco, and it was fantastic! The children really enjoyed themselves and this wouldn’t be possible without the support of staff, so thank you all who volunteered your time!
We will be hosting more after-school events in the upcoming term, so if your child missed out, tell them not to worry and that the disco will return!
Fund-raising at Belmont
We are truly lucky to have a community that is so supportive of others, even during these difficult times and would like to thank all of you who donated what you were able too. As a school we were to raise £609.60 for the Poppy Appeal, £60 for Shelter and over £200 for Children in Need. We would not be able to do this without you, so thank you all so very much.
World Cup
England did not manage to 'Bring it home', but we did reach the quarter-finals, which is a huge achievement!
We had great fun learning about facts from the different participating countries and learning a little more about Qatar.
Belmont School would like to congratulate the England football team and coaching staff!
OPAL
We are super excited with some of the new initiatives that we are introducing at Belmont. One of these being a new play provision that will enable your children to become dynamic risk assessors and enable children to learn how to play, create and engage in learning outside the classroom.
The OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning Programme) is a mentor-supported school improvement programme addressing all 18 areas that a school must plan for to sustainably improve the quality of play.
The OPAL Primary Programme is the only one of its kind, blending elements of strategic school improvement practice, action planning, self-evaluation, play work skills and knowledge and twenty years of action-research.
We have been introducing the programme with the introduction of same time play, play detectives, a play committee with a nominated governor and play assemblies that remind children of the UNICEF Rights Respecting Agenda, especially Article 31, a right to relax and play!
The following link provides an example of what play will look like at Belmont school:

We have been slowly introducing activities into playtimes, and we would like to thank Mr Boca for helping us collect and transporting items to school that have been donated from local businesses to help us start or exciting journey!
We would also like to thank Neil from East Lane Tyres who has donated some tyres to the school!
We are excited to start and we wil be circulating our new Play Policy. If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask.
E Safety over Christmas break
With children being at home and the weather being dark and cold, they are likely to spend more time than ever on devices. It is important to play an active role in your child's online activity by asking them what they are doing, knowing what games they are playing and who they could be engaging with online. Having a genuine interest in what they are doing will also make them feel like you are somebody they can come to if they ever have a problem online. It is important that your child knows you are their trusted adults and that you will always help them. Children are more likely to get themselves into trouble online if they are keeping it a secret or using apps or websites without permission.
We wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Enjoy your break, be safe and rest!
We look forward to welcoming you all back on Wednesday 4th January in your fully labelled school uniform with black shoes!
Yours sincerely,
Mrs P Aggarwall
